We’ve ask our favorite local pizza lovers for the best pizza places in New Braunfels and the answers are in! Just a warning, after reading this post, you will be hungry. These are in no special order, we love them all!
Underground Pizza– is new on the scene and gaining quite the following. Located in the basement of an old city building just off of the square downtown, the underground, casual but cool vibe of this place is half of the fun! It is small but there is also a patio area for eating your pizza alfresco if the weather is nice. Start with a craft beer from their small but nice selection and take your time looking at the menu…it will be hard to choose! Appetizers sound so good you may not even make it to the pizza followed by some amazingly fresh salads including one of my all time favorites, the “how bout a wedgie” which was so good I am deciding when I can sneak by for another one this week. So good. The Pizza menu is vast and full of classics like a Margarita Pie to the unusual Mac and Cheese Pie. There is true array of fresh ingredients to create your own perfect pizza including the special like prosciutto, turkey meatballs and anchovies, to the interesting like New Mexico green chile, cilantro, and fresh pineapple. So go get your pizza on at Underground Pizza! Oh, and don’t forget dessert. Cinnamon Bun Bread Pudding, it’s a must.
New York Pizza Pub- If New York style, hand stretched, brick oven fired pizza is your style, this is the pizza place for you. As you walk in you are met with a smile and great service every time and you see the pizza being made and fired while you dine. The pizza’s are HUGE, so you will never leave hungry! Loaded with fresh ingredients atop yummy fresh fired crust that will make you come back. They offer a perfect weekday lunch special that gives you a fresh cold salad and a slice bigger than the plate that will make you count the minutes until lunch time. For busy moms like me I also recommend calling in an order of Lasagna which is HUGE just like the pizza, and a Southern Salad which is a HUGE fresh salad with these heavenly chicken strip pieces on top that easily feeds my army of 4 on a busy school night. Oh, and of course if you have room, there are HUGE pieces of New York Cheesecake for dessert… just go to Zumba in the morning. Its so worth it.
Bosses Pizza– Two words: pizza buffet. That’s right. Bosses is the place to be at lunch for a simple but very tasty pizza lunch buffet. Who can pass up all you can eat pizza and salad? Don’t be fooled though, the buffet is not the only option at this friendly spot, you are welcome to order off of the specialty pizza menu like the lasagna pizza which is a house specialty or you can even create your own. The burgers are also raved about and there are several specialty burgers like “the Ricky Bobby” that is a burger with ham, and an egg with the classic cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, mayo and mustard. Oh and a little secret from us, there are coupons on the Bosses Pizza website. Bonus.
The Blue Moose Italian Pizza Kitchen- Great name for a pizza place, right? Located right downtown next to the New Braunfels Farmers Market space in a fabulous remodeled building with an art deco feel. It started as the Pizza part of the 188 South Italian restaurant but now The Blue Moose is the entire building and you can order the fabulous pizza as well as the 188 South yummy favorites like house made pasta and meatballs. The pizza comes in traditional hand tossed New York style crust, or stone ground whole wheat and the menu specialty pizzas make it hard to choose a favorite. From fresh seasonal classic pizzas to the interesting local New Braunfels flair, “The Wurst Pie” which has bratwurst, sauerkraut, carmelized onions, mozzarella and a beer cheddar sauce, there is something for everyone One of my favorite things about The Blue Moose is the large patio area. Perfect to sit out and enjoy happy hour. How about an order of Bruschetta with a Moose Drool Brown Ale while enjoying the sunny 85 degree January days we’ve been having? But if you can’t make it in…they deliver! That’s right! Pizza delivered to your door if you live in the immediate New Braunfels area. See the map of locations here.
Dj’s Homemade Pizza– This pizza place wins the smallest award, but that doesn’t mean it is small on pizza. Located on Lincoln street right across from Schlitterbahn Blastenhoff there are only a few outside tables to sit at so most of the business is take out. This is my kiddos’ favorite pizza place in New Braunfels and after long summer days at Schlittlerbahn they beg to go to Dj’s Homemade Pizza! The owner is so friendly and her Pizza is truly one of the best tasting in New Braunfels. Every pizza is extra-large sized and made with the owner’s special pizza crust recipe, and topped with a zesty sauce and hand selected fresh toppings and then stone fired in Bertha, the special pizza oven. Bertha makes a mean pizza.
Infernos Wood Fired Oven and Spirits-This is Gruene’s local pizza prize. Everyone loves Gruene, Texas and everyone loves Infernos. Why the spicy name you ask? It is named for the love of the hottest pepper in the world which is on the menu and in the sausages, the Trinidad Scorpion Pepper. This pizza place has a fun, casual atmosphere with a darling patio that has outdoor tv’s to watch the game. Great place for happy hour and cooling off after a stroll around the local historic town. The menu is vast an offers great appetizers including pepperoni rolls, which reminds me of college. I spent many a late night studying and eating pepperoni roll delivery…Mmmm. Nice to see that on a menu in New Braunfels. The wood fired pizza menu is vast and you can pick your favorites toppings or go with one of the interesting specialty pizzas like the “Pulled Pork n Mac” pizza which features Infernos tangy BBQ Sauce, pulled pork and jalapeño mac and cheese! And don’t forget to ask for the signature scorpion pepper infusion….if you dare
